SANTO SPIRITO

Your dream island holiday
DESCRIPTION:

The house is a restoration of a cluster of 15th century stone ruins. While preserving as many original surfaces as possible, the modern furnishings and amenities give the space a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The view stretches from the beautiful harbor and the 15th century monastery across the Adriatic Sea to the islands of Mijët and Sipan and lastly the mainland with its backdrop of mountains.
The gardens include olives, an orange garden, lemon and vegetable garden and chickens. A meandering path through the garden stretches down to the water. There are wonderful rocks to swim from or you can dip in a private splash pool below the main terrace.
Bedrooms are all air conditioned.

Guest access

Guest can feel totally private in the entire compound, safe behind stone walls and solid gates. There are several paths that can take you to other points of interest on the island, or directly down to the harbor where most of the activity occurs. On this side of the island there are many rock beaches to swim from or two sandy beaches one in the village and one on the other side of the island.

Interaction with guests

Our care taker is but 30 meters away and is ready to assist with anything you may need, be it dinner reservations, excursions to the other islands or information regarding the area and its history

The neighborhood

The compound sits on over 3 acres of land. Santo Spirito, a 16th century chapel restored by the owners, sits just outside the stone walls. Ancient cypress and olive trees abound and there is no way to avoid the Adriatic in all its splendor all around you. The island is almost 5 square miles and is one of the Elaphiti Islands off the coast of Dalmatia, Southern Croatia. It is one of few Elaphiti islands that still operates without cars.

Getting around

There is no transport on the island unless you consider taking the public golf carts that take you to the sandy beaches on the other side of the island. Paddle skis and other water activities can be pursued from the harbor. Important to note that it is about a 7 minute walk from the harbor to the compound and it is an upward climb of approximately 140 steps.

Other things to note

Access to the island can be by ferry from Dubrovnik (60 minutes) or by water taxi (20 minutes). Door to door, the journey from the airport to the harbor is around 1 hour if by taxi and speed boat. The island has basic food shops, fresh fruit and vegetables, a delicatessen and a bakery, but we encourage guests to investigate this through our caretaker / manager, who can help purchasing and deliver at a reasonable fee and have those necessities you may wish when you arrive. A cleaning lady is included 3 hours per day and she can assist with laying the breakfast and the laundry and ironing. Croatian white and red wine can be purchased from our cellar and lastly wonderful olive oil from the owner’s olive trees can be used while you are there. There is also a chef available on request and the caretaker can help with restaurant recommendations and reservations. He can also suggest excursions to other islands and arrange transport. In the village on the other side of the harbor there is a hotel with a full spa, squash and tennis courts, all available for a fee.
